Good Afternoon Independence Families and Staff,
Due to the icy conditions and the weather forecast through Wednesday, we need to close the south lot to traffic, as it is too icy and continues to refreeze causing unsafe, slick conditions. All car riders and staff should plan to use the main entrance drop off lane and parking lot through Wednesday. We will send out an update on Wednesday afternoon to let you know about the rest of the week.
Happy Holidays to our District 128 Families! We hope you have a great winter break. 😊☃️❄️⠀
⠀
All schools and offices will be closed from December 22, 2021 - January 4, 2022.
⠀
Students, see you back on January 5, 2022!
School District 128 Student Wins Membean Root Challenge
Seven Independence students participated in the Membean Root Challenge where they had to use specific roots, prefixes, and suffixes, to create their own pseudoword and compose their pseudoword in an original sentence. This was a national contest where other junior highs, high schools, and colleges submitted their psuedowords where there were only five first place winners and ten honorable mention winners from across the United States. Cayla Prohaska’s pseudoword, sesociomorphise, which means to change due to a pandemic, won honorable mention, and she received a $50.00 Amazon gift card for her efforts! Prohaska’s word in her original sentence was After COVID-19 hit, we had to sesociomorphise into a wacky world of social distancing. All of these students’ words have nuance, precision, originality, and panache…Check out Elise Alligood, Abby Beach, Kiera Bruton, Meredith Cachor, Alexa Castor, Cece Hogan, Cayla Prohaska’s pseudowords!
